About

Three months before my 30th birthday, I decided to take a shot on me and unapologetically move 7,985 miles away from my midwestern hometown. Until that exact moment, I had experienced every moment of my life in Indiana. I grew up in Indianapolis, attended an Indianapolis public high school, attended Indiana University Bloomington for undergrad and graduate school, and became a young professional in the same city I was born. I had spent 29 years of my life in a 53-mile radius. The Midwest had me in a chokehold so tight I could feel the last breath of youthful adventure leaving my body. So, ushering in 30, it was time for something new. I had to GET OUT!

My name is MaCie' Moore, and I am thirty and living in Nairobi, Kenya. I am an Indianapolis Native, a city where I spent 29 years, 8 months, and 18 days of my life, but who's counting? I have worked for restaurants, retail, city government, and the private sector. But one place I had never worked was on the continent of Africa. This blog is an adventure into my thirties. It is meant to address some of the major topics that have plagued my mind as a young black woman moving through the world and how these experiences have shaped my identity, my thoughts, and my year-long experience living abroad. Thank you for taking this journey with me. Remember, I am not perfect, and neither are you. These thoughts are strictly my own. You are free to have your own, and I welcome healthy dialogue. Be apart of the journey with me.
Welcome to BE The Blog.
